The Contra Costa County Pre-Trial Diversion Programs can assist individuals in completing court-ordered requirements. The objective of the Diversion program is to:
- Provide participants an opportunity to address problems related to the use of alcohol and/or other drugs;
- Provide education, group counseling and face-to-face interviews to enable participants to consider attitudes and behavior related to reducing or eliminating the use of alcohol and/or drugs;
- Provide referrals for ancillary services when needed to support a positive lifestyle.

Financial Assistance
Contra Costa County Standards require that Diversion Programs provide financial assistance services to persons who can document an inability to pay the program fee. To determine if you qualify for financial assistance, you must request a financial assessment in writing to the Diversion program of your choice. You may request a financial assessment at any time during program participation. The Diversion program must conduct the financial assessment within 10 days of your written request.
You will be required to provide documentation of income in the form of an award letter for general assistance or other public assistance, tax returns, bank statements, pay vouchers, check stubs, net profits from self employment, net income from real property, other forms of income. If you qualify for financial assistance, you may be eligible to participate in an extended payment schedule, or the fee will be waived if income is equal to or less than the GA level for Contra Costa County.
Level I Program
An intake interview & assessment, twelve hours of education, nine hours of group counseling, one face-to-face interview, one exit interview, three drug tests, twelve 12-step or other community based programs. If the participant fails a drug test, an additional face-to-face interview is required and the participant is elevated to Level II.
Level II Program
An intake interview & assessment, twelve hours of education, twenty-four hours of group counseling, two face-to-face interviews, one exit interview, six drug tests, twenty-four 12-step or other community based programs.
Criteria for Successful Program Completion
The minimum requirements and criteria for successful program completion shall include the following:
- Completion of all required program services;
- Adherence to sobriety and abstinence requirements as mandated by the Court and standards established by the program; and
- Payment of all fees.
