The Contra Costa Family Medicine Residency Program produces leaders in clinical Family Medicine skilled in the full breadth and depth of our discipline.

Located in the Bay Area city of Martinez, in Contra Costa County, we are committed to teaching our residents, caring for the underserved, promoting health equity, and pursuing the future of family medicine. We focus on:

  • Excellence in educational experience
  • Balance of inpatient and outpatient education
  • High level of resident independence and responsibility
  • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Developing the skills to practice in urban, rural and suburban areas

According to the most recent survey by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) of recent graduates (they surveyed in 2023 the graduates of 2020), our graduates were:

  • 4 - 5 times more likely (than the national average) to be practicing in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), demonstrating their continuing commitment to the underserved
  • 100% very satisfied with family medicine as their specialty choice (as opposed to 47% nationally). We believe the full-spectrum training we provide offers our graduates the opportunity to practice the kind of medicine they dreamed of when they chose family medicine
  • 86% very satisfied (compared to only 52% nationally) with their residency training. We believe this is a reflection not only of the quality of their education but also that they had the opportunity to fulfill their devotion to the underserved while here.
