Community Testing

Community testing is currently available at one community site on a drop-in basis:

• Concord: Rainbow Community Center, 2380 Salvio St. Suite 301 (third floor)
  • Free testing is provided every Tuesday of the month starting January 9, 2024 from 4-8 pm (last test will be at 7:30pm).
  • We offer rapid HIV and syphilis testing (results in 20 minutes) and collect samples for gonorrhea and chlamydia testing (results in 3-5 business days).
  • All confidential testing services are open to individuals ages 17 and older and are free of charge.
  • Drop-in basis, no appointment necessary.

Self Testing

In Contra Costa County, if you are 17 years or older, now you can test yourself for HIV in the comfort of your own home/private space.

Follow these easy steps:

1. Visit the Take Me Home website to order a rapid HIV test kit for FREE (the process takes 1 minute).
2. The kit is mailed to your home/private space.
3. Use the kit to swab your gums (make sure to follow the instructions carefully).
4. You process the test yourself and results are ready in 20 mins.
5. If the result is positive, inform you doctor right away or call a Public Health Advisor for assistance 510-426-1709.

It is estimated that over 300 HIV+ individuals in Contra Costa County do not know their status. The only way for anyone to know their HIV status is by getting an HIV test. Confidential, anonymous, low cost, and no cost testing is available.

HIV testing services are found in the following settings.

Private Doctor Testing

Private Doctor testing is available through your primary healthcare provider. Talk to your doctor about getting tested for HIV.

Public Health Testing

Public Health testing is available through the HIV/STI Program and STI Clinic. All clients receive counseling and risk reduction information before testing and when obtaining results. Spanish speaking counselors are available.

• The HIV/STI Program offers anonymous and confidential HIV testing. Results are available in 20 minutes.
• STI Clinic offers confidential testing for HIV and other STIs (sexually transmitted infections). Call for an appointment at 925-608-5350.
