Building Healthy Habits
Habits play a huge role in multiple aspects of your life, including mental and physical health, relationships and self-esteem. It may seem difficult, but it is possible to build new, healthy habits. Forming and sticking to new habits can take time, so remember to be patient and cultivate self-compassion. Remember, building healthy habits over time will keep your mind and body healthy!
Healthy Eating
Eating healthy is a journey, not a destination. Start by adding more fruits and vegetables to your diet. The added fiber will help you feel fuller longer and improve your digestion. It is also beneficial to limit added sugar, cut back on salt and add good sources of proteins and fats to your diet. Here are a few resources to get you started, or keep you going, on your healthy eating journey:
- Healthy Plate from Harvard
- Healthy Eating Tips from the CDC
- Nutrition Basics for Everyone by Dr. Mark Hyman

Regular Movement
Did you know that low activity levels are linked to the development of chronic diseases such as obesity and diabetes? In addition to lowering your risk of disease, exercise helps to relieve stress and improve mood and sleep. Find some regular movement that you enjoy.
Other Healthy Habits
- Express Gratitude: Take a moment to interrupt stress and anxiety with gratitude. What are you grateful for?
- Get Outdoors: Fresh air, sun and nature are mood boosters.
- Connect with Others: Stay connected with family and friends by phone, video chat, texting, social media or writing letters.
- Take Media Breaks: Take breaks from reading, listening or watching current news, including social media. Do something that brings you joy instead.
