The intern will gain experience in several areas, including providing case management services to older adults, collaborating with family members and other service providers, and providing crisis intervention/risk assessment as needed. In addition, there can be the opportunity to complete initial clinical assessments and provide supportive therapy.
Older Adult Mental Health integrates the IMPACT Program model in primary care clinics in each region of the county. Short-term cognitive behavioral therapy is provided in the clinics to older adults with medical diagnoses of diabetes, cardio-vascular disease, and/ or chronic pain who additionally show signs of moderate to severe depression, anxiety or posttraumatic stress disorder. This program consists of a team, which includes a Geropsychiatrist, Mental Health Clinicians, and Community Support Workers.
