AOD Advisory Board Projects
To further the mission of the Alcohol and Other Drugs Advisory Board and to involve the community, the Advisory Board coordinates and supports the following projects in Contra Costa County:
People Who Make a Difference Awards
With support of the Board of Supervisors, the Advisory Board acknowledges volunteer, non-volunteer individuals and groups that have significantly contributed towards reducing substance use in our communities.
September is: National Recovery Month
Each Year in September the Advisory Board hosts the Recovery Champion Award. This Annual proclamation recognizes individuals or organizations for their efforts in enhancing and improving the lives of people in recovery. The Honorable Judge Clare Maier received the 2016 Recovery Champion Award for her support in speaking at the Annual Recovery Walk in September and the Annual Recovery Day at San Quentin, as well as Jennifer Sanchez a Manager at Peet's Coffee in Walnut Creek, for her support in donating coffee and ensuring that Support4Recovery is the recipient of the Walnut Creek Peet's annual donation.
Community Events
Board members participate in various community events such as National Night Out and County-wide health fairs distributing AOD literature. The Board also convenes Educational Forums, Round Table discussions, and Learning Series intended to raise awareness about important and current topics related to alcohol and other drugs.
Advocacy Efforts to Increase Alcohol and Other Drug Treatment
The goal of Alcohol and Other Drugs Services is to provide fair access to treatment; however, without adequate funding, treatment can't be provided appropriately. The Advisory Board advocates to increase Alcohol and Other Drug treatment in Contra Costa County.
