Contra Costa STEMI System

ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) Program

Goal

To decrease mortality and morbidity by facilitating rapid intervention and optimal treatment of 911 patients with ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).

Description

The STEMI program consists of a collaborative network of STEMI Receiving Centers (SRCs) and Prehospital Providers who work in concert to rapidly triage STEMI patients to STEMI Receiving Centers.

Key Principles

The Prehospital 12-lead ECG is a key component to the early diagnosis and ongoing definitive treatment of patients with myocardial infarction (MI). In all cases, the health and well being of the patient is the overriding consideration in determining patient destination. Factors to be considered include: transport time and request by the patient, family, guardian or physician.
