Diversity & Inclusion
Welcome to the Contra Costa Family Medicine Residency webpage for diversity and inclusion. We seek to train diverse physician leaders as future family physicians to meet the needs of the patients and community of our county, our state and beyond. An important piece of that mission is a deliberate effort within our residency program, in alignment with our sponsoring organization, to work on the principles of IDEA: inclusion, diversity, equity and allyship.
Our strategy in the residency includes four principle domains: 1) leadership commitment and assessment of program climate; 2) recruitment and retention of residents and faculty; 3) education, assessment, evaluation and curriculum; and 4) sustainable community connection. Implementation includes the following:
We look through a critical, self-reflective lens to assess our residency climate to ensure we are welcoming, open, and living our commitment to diversity and inclusion.
We use a holistic assessment to recruit talented applicants from a diverse array of backgrounds who are committed to building a diverse workforce in family medicine.
We use education and curriculum development as tools to support resident and faculty learning and growth on IDEA principles.
We prioritize building community partnerships to ensure broad inclusion so that we can be better allies with our community.
Our residents have put together their own leadership group to support these efforts from the resident perspective. We hope you learn some new things about us as you glance through the pages below. Thanks for checking it out.
