Free Breast Exams in the East Bay

Wednesday, October 5, 2011

What:

To commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness month, Contra Costa Health Services is hosting health fairs at its Richmond, Martinez and Pittsburg Health Centers. Free breast exams for the first 40 women at each site, mammograms as needed and education will be provided.

Who:

All uninsured women are encouraged to attend. Physicians, nurse practitioners, social workers, patient navigators and community based cancer organizations will be in attendance to answer questions and provide support.

When:

October 12 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Martinez Health Center, Building 1, 2500 Alhambra Ave. in Martinez.

October 18 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Pittsburg Health Center, East Clinic, 2311 Loveridge Rd. in Pittsburg.

October 25 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Richmond Health Center, 100 38th Street in Richmond.

Why:

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death and the most commonly diagnosed cancer among females in Contra Costa. If tumors are detected early, either by self-exam or mammography, and if followed by treatment, chances of survival are higher.
