Placement Openings

  • 2-3 Ph.D. /Psy.D 3rd-year Practicum level positions.
  • 20-24 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
  • Required days Wednesdays 9-12am and Thursdays all day. Remaining days and times TBD
  • Placements available September through June.
  • Applicants with a second language are encouraged to apply.

Program Description

Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Clinics are a community based health care system providing services to the underserved. The clinics are located in diverse communities comprised of African American, Latino and Caucasian populations with a growing Asian American populace. Interns work as an integrated part of primary care clinics with opportunities to interact with a multidisciplinary team of health providers.

Participants in the training program are exposed to a variety of clinical diagnoses including mood disorders, anxiety and panic disorders, pain disorders, personality disorders, trauma, sleep disorders and on occasion, psychosis. Substance use and dependence are also common diagnoses with the clinic population. Trainees can expect to provide exam room consultation evaluations for health care providers as well as short-term 8-10 session follow-ups for the patients they evaluate. On occasion, interns may participate in medical group therapy for opioid dependence, pain, diabetes, or palliative care.

Interns in this setting will have the opportunity to develop skills in the following areas:

  • Initial evaluation and interview skills
  • DSM-5 diagnosis and differential diagnosis
  • CBT methods and primary care, evidence-based interventions
  • Crisis intervention
  • Case Formulation and step-by-step treatment planning
  • Psychological assessment for ADHD differential diagnosis in adults.
  • Use of evidenced-based screening tools for measurement of outcomes.
  • Psychopharmacology and Medical terminology
