In case there was ever any doubt, Contra Costa Health (CCH) spent 2022 proving it can do more than one thing at a time.
Whether it was our sustained emergency response to the pandemic affecting our community or the deliberate pace of our work toward implementing CalAIM and a single-plan model, laying the groundwork for new capital projects or our expansion of behavioral health crisis services in the community, CCH had a turbulent, productive year.
We responded quickly and well when new challenges arose, such as our vaccination clinics and community outreach during the arrival of MPOX in the Bay Area.
We found new approaches and new partners to advocate for health in the community, from working with the Contra Costa Fire District to squelch a long-burning peat fire that worsened East County air quality to our collaboration with Bay Area Air Quality Management District to keep Crockett residents informed about health impacts during a weeks-long upset at the town's wastewater treatment plant.
No matter the situation, our staff – all of you – show up every day willing to think outside of the box to meet and exceed every challenge thrown their way.
When I reflect on all CCH accomplished in 2022, it is these moments that linger with me. What an amazing team we have. Thank you all so much, for all you do.

Last month, Contra Costa Health launched a new mail-order program that allows county residents to order free COVID home-test kits from us online or by calling 833-829-2626.
More than 10,000 households ordered test kits from us in the first week alone. The program will run through the holidays and perhaps longer depending on our supply of at-home test kits.
Meanwhile, CCH continues to gradually transition out of emergency-response mode as the pandemic fades. In October, we sunsetted our two stationary COVID testing sites in Richmond and San Ramon as part of this transition.
Our three public COVID vaccination sites will remain open at least until March 2023 and we will continue to offer mobile vaccination clinics in underserved areas of the county.
Between shopping for presents and gathering with friends and family – this time of year always seems to fly by. But there's no better way to celebrate the holidays than by giving back.
Here is an easy way to do just that by helping our neighbors facing hunger.
Our yearly Food Fight with Solano County is back! It's a friendly contest to see which county is the most generous when it comes to supporting the Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano.
County employees are asked to make financial donations to the Food Bank through Dec. 31, and every gift makes a big difference – no matter the size.
The county that raises the most funds per employee wins bragging rights and the Big Apple trophy, but the real winners are our neighbors.
