Children's Oral Health Program

Healthy Teeth

Baby teeth are important. Toddlers need these teeth to learn how to eat. Baby teeth help shape your baby's face and jaw, and help to keep adult teeth straight.

Healthy Teeth Tips:

  • Breastfeed baby for one year.
  • If bottle-fed, wean baby from bottle at first birthday.
  • Wipe baby's gums with soft cloth before they have teeth, brush and floss teeth every day
  • Eat a healthy diet, limit sugary or stick foods and drinks.
  • Avoid sharing thing with your child that have been in your mouth. This includes pacifiers, spoons, food, cups, and toothbrushes.

For information about dental clinics, sealants, and flouride treatments, see Children's Oral Health Program or call:

Testing for Lead Poisoning

How can you tell if a child has lead poisoning?
Children with lead poisoning may not look or act sick. The only way to know for sure is to get a blood test.

Elevated lead levels can cause learning and behavior problems and slow your child's growth.

Ask the doctor to order a blood test for lead at your child's one and two year check up, or if it has not been done yet.

For more information, see Lead Poisoning Program or call:
