Mental Health Services for Youth and Families

Contra Costa children and adolescents to age 18 are served by a County-wide system of care that includes Mental Health staff working in partnership with Probation Department, Employment and Human Services Department, school districts, and family members. County staff, community based agencies, and a network of private therapists provide these services for youth:

  • Advocacy for access to appropriate services
  • Case Management
  • Consultation with family doctors and pediatricians
  • Counseling in public schools
  • Crisis services
  • Day treatment in conjunction with residential and educational programs
  • Discharge planning for leaving hospitals and residential programs
  • Early intervention for very young children (birth to 6 years)
  • Emergency foster care
  • Medication support to relieve symptoms
  • Parent-to-parent support groups
  • Screening, assessment, and evaluation of problems exhibited by children
  • Short-term and long-term residential programs
  • Short-term and long-term therapy for children and families
  • Trauma and sexual assault recovery support
  • Wraparound services
