Contact: Joanne Genet, 925-313-6763 WhatConcerned about the recent large recall of toys due to lead hazards, the Contra Costa Lead Poisoning Prevention Project (LPPP) has set up drop-off sites where parents can safely dispose of the recalled toys at its office and at Contra Costa County Supervisors' offices throughout the county. WhyThe Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a recall for a large group of Fisher-Price & Mattel toys on 8-2-07 because of a lead paint hazard, and there continues to be additional recalls. Lead poses a serious health risk, especially to young children. Since lead can leach into the ground, it is important the toys be properly disposed of. The recalled toys should either be returned to the toy company following recall instructions or taken to the drop off sites. When & Where
