Contra Costa's First African American Health Expo Set for September 24
Thursday, September 15, 2011
A one-day event to address and improve the health of African Americans will take place Saturday, September 24 in Pittsburg. The African American Health Empowerment Expo, A Call to Individual and Community Action, features workshops, speakers, community support resources, and free health and dental screenings. Workshops include Health-a-licious Cooking, Eating Right When Money is Tight, Faith-based Presentation, and Mind, Body and Soul, among others.
The event is free and open to the public.
10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, September 24, registration opens at 9 a.m.
Pittsburg High School, 1750 Harbor Street, Pittsburg
Event organizers say African Americans have a long history of coming together to address and overcome many political and social justice issues in our communities. This event is a first step to address the dire health disparities that exist within the East Contra Costa African American Community and begin to close the gap to these inequities and improve life expectancies.
