A 2.5-mile walk September 24 in Martinez will commemorate September as National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month. On Tuesday, the Contra Costa Board of Supervisors proclaimed September as National Recovery Month in Contra Costa. The theme of this year's walk is "Breaking the chains of addiction." In 2009, 4.3 million Americans aged 12 years and older received treatment for substance abuse disorders. A free lunch and $5 T-shirts will be available to the first 450 registered guests. There will also be children's entertainment and brief speeches.
Registration for the walk begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, September 24. The walk starts at Ferry Street and Joe DiMaggio Drive in the Martinez Waterfront Park.
Everyone is encouraged to participate. Support 4 Recovery is the event's sponsor with help from the Behavioral Health Division of Contra Costa Health Services and the Contra Costa Alcohol and Other Drugs Advisory Board.
This event is taking place to urge people who live in Contra Costa to help prevent alcohol and drug abuse and to promote treatment and recovery options. For information about alcohol and drug services in Contra Costa, visit www.cchealth.org/groups/alcohol_and_drugs/
