Community Grants Available for Raising HIV/AIDS Awareness
September 21, 2007
Contra Costa Health Services AIDS Program announces the availability of mini-grants up to $1000 for individuals or groups to conduct interactive education events reaching women and men who have risks for acquiring HIV. Events where groups explore why individuals/communities continue to put themselves at risk for HIV infection will be given priority.
Review of applications will begin on October 15, 2007. Funds are limited, so early submission of applications is encouraged.
Local groups and institutions, including churches, neighborhood groups/associations, non-profit organizations and individuals are encouraged to apply.
Grant money can reimburse for materials, speakers, and other related needs to conduct events in Contra Costa County reaching local residents. Group events corresponding to HIV/AIDS observances dates are encouraged. All events must take place before June 2008.
Sample event ideas include community events encouraging open discussion to reduce stigma and discrimination around HIV/AIDS; providing women with the opportunity to talk about HIV prevention and how to negotiate safer sex with partners; and for making AIDS memorial quilts.
Groups selected to receive a grant must schedule an orientation with the Contra Costa County AIDS Program to finalize details of the grant prior to final approval of application.
