Grants for up to $2,500 are available to businesses, agencies, schools and organizations to conduct an emergency preparedness drill or exercise. The drill must have a stated list of objectives that exclusively addresses Contra Costa County.
The grants are offered by Contra Costa County CAER (Community Awareness and Emergency Response) Group, a partnership between local industry and Contra Costa Health Services' Hazardous Materials Programs
Applications are available online at www.cococaer.org or at the CAER office, 1330 Arnold Drive, #246, Martinez. More information about the grant program is also available by calling 925-313-9296 or toll-free within Contra Costa at 1-888-972-2237.
The application must be submitted to the CAER office by February 15. It may also be faxed to 925-313-9176.
Applications will be judged on the degree of benefit to Contra Costa County, the applicant's needs and the involvement of multiple organizations.
"We're looking for organizations or agencies who want to participate in preparing Contra Costa for a health emergency by planning and conducting an emergency drill or exercise," said Anthony Semenza, Executive Director of CAER. "Preparedness is essential to reduce the health impacts of such an event."
