Protect Yourself From Flu

California and Contra Costa are seeing high levels of flu activity. We remind the community to take the following steps to prevent the spread of flu.

  • Get your flu vaccine
  • Clean hands often with soap and water or with hand sanitizer
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes
  • Stay home when you’re sick

People with flu like symptoms should call their health plan's Advice Nurses to get help with self-care or to help them decide if they need to visit an urgent care clinic, make an appointment with their health care provider or go to an emergency room. Rarely is emergency room needed for flu or respiratory issues.

Contra Costa Health Plan members and Contra Costa residents who do not have health coverage can call 1-877-661-6230 and select option 1 to speak to an Advice Nurse.

Placement Openings:

2-3 Masters level trainees (MSW) for 1st and 2nd year students.

  • Minimum of 16- 24 hours per week, 2-3 days/week
  • Placement available as early as Summer 2018 and ends by Summer 2019, determined as needed to accommodate program and Trainee needs
  • Required attendance: 2 hour group supervision (Wednesdays) and 1 hour individual supervision per week
  • Required training day of 3rd Wednesday of the month from 9am-12pm for countywide trainings
  • Required participation in a multi-disciplinary team
  • MSW trainees will be trained to co-facilitate our DBT group that meets on Thursdays


West Contra Costa County Adult Mental Health serves a culturally diverse community. The services we provide are: medication support services, psychiatric nursing care, case management services, individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy, socialization/outings, and supporting clients with learning essential independent living skills.

Trainees will learn crisis intervention skills, assessment and treatment planning, be exposed to various treatment modalities, and differential diagnosis. Trainees will have an opportunity to work with doctors, nurses, licensed therapists, and community support staff in an integrated and coordinated manner.
