Placement Openings

  • One to Two Ph.D. /PsyD second year Practicum level positions
  • Minimum of 12 hours per week, Monday through Friday
  • Required days Wednesday 10am to 4pm. Remaining days and times TBD
  • Placements available September through June.

Program Description

East County Adult Mental Health is a community based mental health clinic providing services to the underserved. The clinic is located in a diverse community comprised of African American, Latino and Caucasian populations with a growing Asian American populace. Our approach to treatment is multidisciplinary, incorporating multi-therapeutic modalities including individual and group therapy, medication support, case management and psychiatric nursing care.

Participants in the training program are exposed to a variety of clinical diagnoses including mood disorders, anxiety and panic, pain disorders, personality disorders, trauma, sleep disorders, and psychosis. Substance use and dependence are also common. Trainees can expect to provide brief individual therapy, conduct intake evaluations, co-lead group therapy, and consult with multi-disciplinary staff.

Trainees in this setting will have the opportunity to develop skills in the following areas:

  • Initial evaluation and interview skills
  • DSM diagnosis and differential diagnosis
  • CBT methods and evidence based interventions
  • Crisis intervention
  • Case Formulation and step-by-step treatment planning
  • Psychological testing and report writing(if desirable)
  • Psychopharmacology and Medical terminology
