The Position

The Contra Costa County Health Services Department is recruiting individuals to fill three vacant Surgical Technologist positions. These are permanent full-time positions which will be located at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center in Martinez, California.

The primary responsibility of these positions is to provide technical assistance to the surgeon at the operating table. The appointee will be required to set up and arrange surgical instruments, needles, sponges, sutures and dressings on the surgical table and be required to maintain all instruments, sutures, equipment and supplies. Additionally, the individual hired must ensure that the surgical area and instruments remain sterile. Other duties may include: setting up cautery and suctions; retracting and holding tissues; assisting the surgeon with the application of traction devices and casts and handling and labeling all specimens.

Minimum Qualifications

Certificate: Possession of a valid certificate as a Certified Surgical Technologist issued by the Association of Surgical Technologist.

Substitution: Either 1) Successful completion of a surgical technologist training program; or 2) one (1) year of full-time experience or its equivalent experience as a Surgical Technologist. Recent experience within the last 3 years, as a surgical technologist in an operating room is highly desired.

2. Application Screening: Depending on the number of applications received, an Application Screening Committee may be convened to review and evaluate each candidate's application. Those candidates determined to be best qualified for the position will be invited to the oral interview.

3. Oral Interview: An oral interview will be conducted by a Qualifications Appraisal Board in Martinez, CA. The Board will evaluate candidates in job-related areas. Candidates must receive a rating of at least 70 from a majority of the Board members to be ranked on the employment list. (Weighted 100%)

The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices.
