"The ache for home lives in all of us, the safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned" ~ Maya Angelou ~
Calli House youth shelter is designed to address the immediate shelter needs of runaway and homeless youth ages 14-21 in Contra Costa. Available 24 hours per day, there are 6 beds for youth under 17 years of age and twelve beds for youth ages 18-21.
All youth entering the shelter are provided a comprehensive assessment that identifies their needs and form the basis of their housing plan. Transitional age youth who cannot return home or are not ready to live independently may have the option to live at Appian House or Bissell Cottages.
Homeless youth ages 14-24, contacted through outreach, residing at the shelter or referred by other sources, are encouraged to access Calli House's drop-in center. The program is a safe haven off the streets and provides services such as food, clothing, crisis intervention and case management to meet the basic needs of the youth.
Wrap around services such as education and health care are available upon demand to aid in the stabilization, development and well-being of the youth. Additionally, Support groups, including substance abuse prevention and education: peer-led groups; and comprehensive adolescent health education workshops, are held weekly on-site.
Homeless youth accessing services through our emergency shelter or through our drop-in center are provided with support services to help them return home, access transitional housing programs or live independently.
