Message from Director Dr. William Walker
As the Director of Contra Costa Health Services (CCHS) and the Health Officer for Contra Costa County, my job is to lead the department that cares for the most vulnerable people in our county and improves the health of all who live here. Communities must have the conditions for good health, including safe drinking water, clean restaurants, control of communicable diseases, access to health care and a reliable emergency medical system. CCHS provides all of these services and more.
We prepare for and respond to health emergencies like flu outbreaks and hazardous materials incidents. We run Contra Costa Regional Medical Center, 11 health centers, the Public Health laboratory and immunization clinics that prevent the spread of disease. We provide treatment for alcohol and drug addiction, and offer services for people who are seriously mentally ill or homeless.
Our integrated health system wasn’t created overnight. It took the dedication and vision of many people through the years. It has been my honor to carry forward the principles as health department director since 1995.
William Walker, MD
