Projects of the Advisory BoardTo further the mission of the Alcohol and Other Drugs Advisory Board and to involve the community, the Advisory Board coordinates and supports the following projects in Contra Costa County: Television Programming"A Call to Action": This project is a collaborative effort of the Advisory Board and Contra Costa Television to raise awareness about alcohol and other drugs (AOD) issues. Three programs were successfully produced and are televised on a regular basis. Subjects include Ecstasy, Methamphetamine, and Youth and Alcohol. The Advisory Board also produced other video programs regarding alcohol and other drugs issues, promotion of successful recovery programs and community-based organizations working to reverse the negative trend of substance abuse in our communities. Additionally, the Advisory Board works with Contra Costa Television to make available other topics and programs. Videos are available for loan by contacting Fatima Matal Sol at 925-313-6311.
People Who Make a Difference AwardsWith support of the Board of Supervisors, the Advisory Board acknowledges volunteer, non-volunteer individuals and groups that have significantly contributed towards reducing AOD abuse in our communities. Community EventsBoard members participate in various community events such as National Night Out and County-wide health fairs distributing AOD literature. Advocacy Efforts to Increase Alcohol and Drug TreatmentThe goal of the Alcohol and Other Drugs Services Division is to provide fair access to treatment; however, without adequate funding, treatment can't be provided appropriately. The Advisory Board advocates to increase alcohol and other drug treatment in Contra Costa County. AOD Prevention Campaigns/Partnerships
Each year, the Advisory Board, in conjunction with AODS' Youth, Family and Community System of Care Providers and various community organizations, sponsor the following campaigns to raise awareness and educate communities about AOD issues:
Additionally, in 2004 the Board supported the AODS' Youth Summit to develop the Youth Developed Guide to AOD Indicators (4.5M PDF, 49pp.).
