Health Advisory Lifted for Pittsburg and Antioch

The health advisory for Pittsburg and Antioch has been lifted. The advisory was issued for people with respiratory sensitivities this morning after a chemical release at Dow Chemical in Pittsburg. Contra Costa HazMat staff are investigating the incident. More information will be posted as it becomes available.

Influenza A (H3N2v)

Some people have recently had flu caused by a type of flu virus that normally infects pigs. This is not the same virus that caused the H1N1 flu pandemic in 2009. None of these cases have occurred in California. Many of those who became sick with this variant flu, H3N2v, had earlier contact with pigs. This variant flu is spread in the same way as seasonal flu. It is not spread by eating pork. The symptoms and severity of this illness are similar to seasonal flu. Additional information may be found at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
