Pharmacy Syringe Sales
Non-prescription sales of syringes (NPSS) is a powerful intervention for prevention of blood borne infections (namely HIV, Hepatitis B and C) among injection drug users and their sexual partners.
Senate Bill 41 allows licensed pharmacists in California to sell or furnish up to 30 syringes without a prescription to an individual over the age of 18. It requires pharmacists to furnish health education, referrals and information on safe disposal of used syringes.
